Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas is the newest cosponsor for HR 1522, the Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Bill.
Rep. Gonzalez is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and a veteran. He suits on the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth. He voted for the Build Back Better Act and has been active in his support of voters’ rights.
What matters to Rep. Gonzalez?
Gonzalez’s web site gives more details on what matters to him:
Congressman Gonzalez was influenced by his father, a Korean War veteran, to help individuals fight for their rights and practiced law for 20 years. He stood with working families wronged by powerful corporations and took on unscrupulous vendors, recovering millions in school bond revenues for taxpayers. In Congress, he is fighting to protect Social Security and Medicare and to ensure that veterans, military members, and their families have the care and compensation they earned through their service. He is committed to improving health care for those who need it most: children, people with special needs, veterans, and seniors.
As a small business owner, Congressman Gonzalez understands the challenges facing American businesses. He serves on the House Committee on Financial Services. In Congress, he is working across party lines and with local, state, and federal government to expand economic opportunity for all. He serves on the Subcommittees on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets and Housing, Community Development and Insurance.
His commitment to Social Security, Medicare, health care, veterans, military memebers, children, and entrepreneurship make Rep. Gonzalez’s support for Puerto Rico inevitable. All these concerns are special concerns for Puerto Rico.
Gonzalez has a duty to fight for the people of South Texas, his constituents. Puerto Rico has no voting representatives in Congress and just one non-voting member who represents more than three million U.S. citizens. The Island needs the voices of legislators from the states to speak up for justice and equality for Puerto Rico.
We appreciate Rep. Gonzalez’s support. If you live in a state, please reach out to your reps and ask them to support Puerto Rico. Only statehood will bring equality for Puerto Rico, and only Congress can make Puerto Rico a state.
